CHRISTIAN DIOR (Hybrid Tea, Meilland 1958)
This was La Plus Belle Rose de France at Lyons in 1958 and also received awards in the international contests in Madrid, Rome and Geneva in the same year. From its strong bud there unfolds a superb rose, elegant, distinguished and of a wonderful crimson red, shaded with scarlet when it is fully open. Its beauty is further enhanced by its long and almost thornless stems and its shining foliage. This is a magnificent rose which proudly bears one of the greatest names in the world of French fashion.
PEACE (Hybrid Tea, Meilland 1942)
This is the very popular rose which crated such a sensation when it first appeared. Known as Gloria Dei in Germany and Gioia in Italy, it goes under the name of Mme A. Meilland in France and Switzerland, for it is the masterpiece of the firm Meilland in Antibes. This variety is quite exceptional-unusually vigorous, producing very strong branches and plentiful, shining dark green foliage which never becomes diseased. The flower is very large and full, and cup-sharped. The bud is canary yellow tinged with carmine but as the flower opens the color changes to reddish pink. In some areas it is goon on a large scale for the cut-flower makes, and near Rome once admired, in May, a field of forty thousand rose-bushes each of which bore on average eighteen flowers per square foot, which shows how vigorously this plant grows.
